Quick Facts
Position: Professor
Department: Information Systems
Office: Atkinson Hall 306B
Years at GC: 18+ years
Professional Journey
My unique career path has taken me from serving as Marine Infantry in the United States Marine Corps (1993-2001) to becoming a Professor of Information Systems. This diverse background gives me a distinctive perspective on leadership, discipline, and the importance of continuous learning.
I earned my PhD in Business Information Systems from Utah State University in 2006, and more recently completed a Master of Science in Financial Planning from the University of Georgia in 2021, demonstrating my commitment to lifelong learning and staying current with evolving fields.
Entrepreneurial Spirit
I'm actively involved in entrepreneurship through my ownership of SouthernFabric.com and DIY Money LLC, bringing real-world business experience into the classroom.
Coaching Experience
Six years as a cross country coach have fundamentally transformed my teaching philosophy, bringing athletic training principles into academic instruction.
Teaching & Research Philosophy
My approach to education is deeply influenced by my coaching background. Just as I guide runners to push beyond their perceived limits, I serve as a catalyst for student growth rather than simply a deliverer of content. I believe in "pressure with support"—the same environment that produces championship athletes.
My research focuses on the cutting edge of technology education, particularly:
- Artificial Intelligence in Education: Exploring how AI transforms teaching and learning
- Business Communication: Investigating virtual teamwork and collaboration technologies
- Technology Adoption: Understanding factors that influence technology acceptance
- Cross-Cultural Studies: Examining how cultural factors impact technology use
Awards & Recognition
I've been honored with multiple awards for teaching excellence, including the 2024 Excellence in Online Teaching Award and the 2021 Business Communication Impact Award from the Association of Business Communication. These recognitions reflect my commitment to innovative education and impactful research.
Beyond the Classroom
When I'm not teaching or researching, I enjoy the entrepreneurial challenges of running my businesses and staying connected to the practical applications of the technologies I teach. My military background instilled in me values of service, discipline, and leadership that continue to guide my professional and personal life.
